Well, the hyped and frenzied transfer speculation continues to be the main topic of discussion in most quarters and it's got me thinking.

I'm old enough to remember rushing to the paper shop on the way to work to buy the tabloids and trolling ceefax for transfer gossip when I got home (that's what we did back in the days before the internet came into existence) . Looking back it all seems a bit obsessive really. The ones that really stick are the heartbreak of Rush going to Juventus and then the joy of finding out he was coming back as well as that summer when it broke that we'd signed Barnes and Beardsley and the anticipation and excitement that came with that news.

Now I don't know if it's just me (and I don't like to admit it) but this window just seems so laden with stress and fear, they are by far overshadowing the anticipation and excitement of a season with Salah and Mane on the wings. I don't know if it's because I now have more access to hysterical whingers and that papers have to try even harder now to make money by selling stories but I feel myself getting caught up in it all.

I come on here most days (and have for a few years now) and I have never experienced such a summer. There is huge and tangible anxiety and fear among fans and level heads are few and far between (Eds and Ron are notable exceptions) . I sadly keep catching myself checking EOTK, TIA and even NewsNow for updates (I think I need help) .

I will be very happy when the new season gets under way (regardless of who else we sign or don't sign) so I can relax and start to enjoy watching us play again.

I wonder if the stress and fear etc are down to us being so close to something big (like winning the league)? Panic induced by the fact that all of our rivals appear to be getting who they want while we blunder about?

Phew, I feel a bit better now after posting that lot. Just needed to get it my chest (the wife's a City fan so offers no sensible solace, haha) .

Looking forward to the first real game of the season. Any thoughts anybody?

1st Are you really Danny Murphy. Secondly I don't understand the stress. We are about as close to winning the league as Brighton. Hope we have a great season and I hope your stress clears up.

{Ed042's Note - I think modern day fans as a whole tend too get wrapped up in the transfer marker. I agree with Danny. The prospect of our attack from last season + Salah and Solanke js an enticing one. Ofc there's the fear of a poor start and the burdening expectations of the team but for now all we can do is wait (and avoid all shitty transfer rumour sources. }

haha, no I am not really Danny Murphy, i just love him for his record of scoring vs ManU, some great memories there / i was just commenting on the modern day stress which is heightened by the relentless media overload of BS about transfer gossip / I too hope we have a great season and can't wait for it to start.

A decent player for us over a couple of seasons.
