Yesterday literally just looked like one of those games. Okay we weren't good enough but when a player who hasn't scored in 30 top flight games comes up with an unstoppable goal seconds into the game, there isn't a lot you can do. The second goal was jammy as hell as well. Not good but also not a lot we can do.

However hopefully it will motivate the management to seriously evaluate the weaknesses that remain. Wijnaldum certaimly needs to be dropped for the moment, it isn't working for him at the moment and he needs time out. Grujic needs to come in more often to play in the advanced role, milner and lallana still need to be sold for me. Moreno needs to go but wheres the surprise there.

We seriously messed up not getting chilwell. If it was me i'd just pay up the money for hector, sell as many players that we don't need as possible, and get medel to add some steel to midfield.

Out of question, what does everyone see our best side as? For me personally it would be

Karius
Clyne Matip Klavan Milner
Henderson Can
Mane Firmino Coutinho
Origi.

Reports indicating we have dropped our interest in Thuram, as we saw him as an option for a more advanced midfield role, which has since been filled by Szloboszai. Instead, we are refocusing our attention on Lavia.

Makes sense to me. Thuram looks a wonderful talent, but maybe not quite what we need. In the original incarnation of our 4-3-3, he would have been a perfect fit. Aside from his outstanding ability to dribble and carry the ball, I’m not sure he ticks enough boxes for us.

Lavia is younger, is proven in the Premier League and is better both in terms of passing and his defensive acumen. I believe he also will count as homegrown in the future, while not taking up a non-homegrown spot in the present. He is a much more obvious and natural replacement for the declining Fabinho. Our over reliance on Fabinho as our sole holding midfielder has cost us for too many years.

Reports also mentioning that Thiago will be allowed to leave. No surprises there.

Our wonderful start to the summer only appears to be getting better; I have a hunch that we’ll see three more players come through the door.

Klopp made good on his promise to 'go back to basics'. That first half was much more like the Liverpool I know. Hopefully the penny has finally dropped.

I think what we saw in the second half is further proof of what has been going on behind the scenes.

We couldn't play that way for 90 minutes, so we had to sit off and conserve energy. Bajcetic, a very young kid, was cramping on 70 minutes, while Elliott was dead on his feet by full time.

We've simply not been doing the same intensity of training that we used to, and players of all ages, young and old, do not have the fitness to cope. As if the injury list was not not enough evidence to support this, the second half of that match has all but confirmed it.

Trying to completely change the style of play mid season is going to be exceptionally difficult, but if we approach every game in that manner from now until the end of the season, I'll be much happier.

Blow them away first half, sit back and counter second half, fight for every ball. I can't ask for much more than that.

I’m not suggesting Klopp deserves to go right now, nor am I suggesting that I want him to go.

However, if this current trajectory continues until the end of the season, I can’t see it going any other way, and I can’t see it being something that anybody will argue was undeserved.

The way we are being set up, coached, our approach and philosophy to our play, strikes me as mindless, stubborn stupidity, with no end in sight. It’s the same problems every game, except they just get worse and worse. That process began at the start of last season, not just this one.

I said a few weeks ago on here that, at the back of my mind, I had a feeling that Klopp has lost his edge. Those feelings are now very much at the forefront of my thinking. I see no intensity or passion in him, I see no intensity or passion in his team. Too many players kept on for too long, standards allowed to drop, idiotic tactics that become more self destructive with each passing game.

I don’t know if he has it in him to do what needs to be done. Every week feels like I’m banging my head against a brick wall. I can’t see him binning off his pal Pep, I can’t see him taking us back to the blood and thunder football of a few years ago, and I can’t see him making the necessary changes to the squad, which have been overdue for a good few seasons.

I don’t want it to be this way, but I can’t see any eventuality in which this ends well. I care about our material success very much, but more than that, I just never thought that Klopp would be going out like this. A shadow of his former self, confused and doing the same things time and again. As dramatic as it sounds, it is in some way akin to watching one of your loved ones go senile. It’s morbid and sad and feels very cruel.

9 goals is obviously dreamland, and it’s great to see us put away our chances, but the scoreline almost seems somewhat irrelevant.

Today was the first time in many months that I saw Liverpool play with 100% intensity, commitment, concentration and professionalism for the whole 90 minutes. Every player was as good as they could be, apart from Mo who still had a great game all round but couldn’t stick the ball in the net.

I’m basking in the beauty of the 9 wonderful goals, but it is only one game. I want to see that level of hunger and drive for every minute of every game, or today counts for nothing. My trust in these players has been soured a bit and we need to see for another month or two before I can be sure we don’t have an attitude problem, to be sure we aren’t in a complacent decline.

Great win, but it’s just the start and it’s only 3 points. We need to build from here, which means I don’t want to see us go a goal down and mess about for 60 minutes against Newcastle because we get arrogant again.

Having said that, the brilliant performance today and the possibility of a new midfielder gives me confidence that they are taking this seriously. Onwards and upwards.

With nothing left to play for and this horrendous season finally drawing to a close, fantasising about a more positive future for the Reds is just about all we can do.

I went all Football Manager and started dreaming up what our squad could look like by the end of the transfer window, operating within somewhat realistic parameters:

Alisson (Kelleher)
Alexander-Arnold (Williams)
Konate (Gomez)
van Dijk (Phillips)
Robertson (Tsimikas)
Fabinho (Bissouma)
Thiago (Jones)
Henderson (Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain)
Salah (Elliott)
Vlahovic (Firmino)
Jota (Saka)

Outs: Adrian (Free), Wijnaldum (Free), Davies, Matip, Larouci, Grujic, Keita, Shaqiri, Wilson, Ojo, Woodburn, Origi, Minamino, Mane

To me that looks like a much leaner, balanced and healthier squad than the one we have now, bringing the average age of the squad down and building for the future. All of the incoming players are seemingly very obtainable, and have all shown tremendous character all season, despite playing for struggling teams, which in my opinion is what we’ve been lacking from certain individuals this season.

What do you guys think will end up happening?
