I'm curious to see opinions on where the Eds and reds think we need to strengthen in the summer and who realistically we should bring in to fill those positions.

Eds, I'm curious what you think of the refereeing tonight. For me I think the first and third handballs were penalties, but the second was innocent and very hard to see, not to mention a very harsh penalty. On the first one, not only has it hit his arm in an unnatural position, but he has moved to block off firmino and then pen should be given for that alone. On the third one, he has made himself bigger putting his arm in an unnatural position and blocked the pass with his hand. I also think Sevilla's third goal was offside. I think the lino initially got it right. If the ball deflects off an opponent to a player who was in offside position when the initial ball was hit, then he is offside. The first touch from a liverpool player was a deliberate attempt to clear the ball in which he got solid contact, making it the point from which offside is judged. Also, the yellow against origi was utter garbage. Origi has his arm up and the sevilla player has put his head into on the way up and then again on the way down, should have gone the other way with a yellow for simulation.

This doesn't excuse the second half performance, which was woeful on all counts (except Kolo who was fantastic throughout) . Still it's a hard loss to take at the end of the day.

I've also seen a trend when we go into halftime looking very dangerous and then come out looking complacent and not switched on (Southampton, Newcastle, tonight) . Is this the players or is Klopp not good at getting his players to keep up the intensity when they're ahead. We all know what he can do to fire the players up when they've played badly, but I don't know if he can replicate it when we play well.

{Ed002's Note - I have no particular thoughts. Every game throws up a little contention. Every supporter looks for excuses. You will blame some one else tomorrow - just put it behind you and recognise that Klopp is there to be better - as what he is now is not, and has not been for some years good enough. He is smart enough to know that. In the words of one of my favourite poets, Langston Hughes:

I stay cool, and dig all jive,
That's the way I stay alive.
My motto, as I live and learn, is
Dig and be dug in return.

Suck it up and move on.}

Ed, what perfect lines you have chosen. we have to suck it up and move on and look forward to next season. no point in discussing things which cannot be rectified. i am sure klopp will learn from this. i am really excited for what liverpool can do under him next season.

I think we need to fire John Achterburg before we replace Mignolet. The fact that Mignolet can't deal with crosses consistently is the responsibility of a goalkeeper coach.
Benteke should be dropped. My team right now would look like
Mignolet
Clyne Sakho Skrtel Moreno
Lucas Hendo
Can Coutinho Lallana
Firmino

Firmino and Coutinho have linked up and he's looked good as a false nine. Coutinho needs someone creative to play with. We need lucas in the team. We need a DM. Lallana, while he hasn't scored or assisted much, has been a great player with his little tricks and turns. Milner needs to be dropped and we need to work on Set Pieces attacking and defending vigorously in training. In january, we need a new DM, not necessarily to replace Lucas, but it is preferable. We need some depth there especially with the fixture congestion. We also need a world class CB. Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren, Toure, no combo of those 4 shouts top 4 CB partnership to me. The last thing we need is cover at fullback, which Klopp looks like he has covered with Grosskreutz.

{Ed001's Note - I think both Achteberg and Migs need to go personally.}

Can we please talk about Danny Ings playing LB at points while we were defending today. There is no reason he should be that deep and it definitely wasn't something he'd do by himself without Rodgers telling him to do so. We've been yelling at Rodgers for over a year to play 2 strikers and I jumped for joy when they announced we were playing a diamond and then Rodgers goes and takes a dump all over the system dropping Ings back on defense like a wide midfielder and creating the same isolation problems that Benteke (who was brilliant by the way considering the shit service and lack of options during hold up play he had) had with a 1 striker system. Unless he can turn us around and stop playing utterly stupid tactics a few games before Christmas, he should be out by the New Year. We should have taken the game to an underwhelming United. On a brighter note, we had better chances than United today; we forced two good saves out of De Gea and missed a golden opportunity at the back post. We finally started to play after we went down. I know it sounds crazy now, but based on our chances we should have come away with a point at least.

If Kevin DeBrunye ends up going to city for 40 million like it looks like he might, it will make us selling sterling for 49 million even more ridiculous. DeBrunye won German footballer of the year for god's sake. Liverpool fans can laugh even more than they already were if this deal goes through.

I don't think it's total nonsense. In quality sure, but the fact that we don't even have a backup who can play that position naturally or do the same job mane does is the fault of klopp and the management/ executive team. When Messi and Ronaldo are missing for Barca/ Madrid, they have players who play in those positions to fill in, not quite as good players, but they have competent players naturally able to do the job.

Church on a hill

{Ed001's Note - how is it their fault? We only have one because they just brought him in last summer! What do you want them to do, buy 2 players for every position in each window? You are talking more bollox than the first guy.}

It is frankly absurd that he still has a job. I've been calling for him to get sacked for over a season now, when it was still migs.

{Ed002's Note - Do no wrong Klipperty Klopp wanted and got Karius - why is he blame free?}

I think at least in the Watford game, our midfield got tired. We played for 70 minutes with the tempo that we had managed for 15-20 minutes in games this season. They got tired, weren't pressing and cutting out passes as well, and thus we were under pressure. Also, I think the scoreline doesn't do Watford credit, they attacked reasonably well in the game, seen by Karius's 8 saves, some of which were quite good. I don't mind conceding a goal when the other team tries to play attacking football like us, it's the games where the other team shuts up shop that we need a strategy not to concede.

He wasn't beating his chest. It was worse. He clearly pulled on the Everton badge saying essentially that he was proud of what he did as it was in the derby. There's no need for that in football and I was glad to see the Everton Assistant Coach give him an earful for it on his way out.

Having Firmino back soon will mean probably Lallana or Milner gets sat, and Firmino's our top goal scorer. Also, while I hope Can and Hendo get a goal every once in a while, that's not their role at the end of the day, I'd rather they bossed the midfield and protected our defense rather than score.
