Incredibly happy with the performance from the 'kids' tonight.

Curtis Jones was great, and certainly played like a proper Liverpool attacker with his pressing. As much as people will say we rode our luck (e. g. LiVARpool), the own goal was forced by Neco Williams channelling TAA to play that pass because it honestly looked likely to end in a goal regardless. Kelleher seems to have gained some valuable experience, he dealt with aerial balls very well I thought.

There was a lot of talk before the game about Liverpool disrespecting the cup, and you can see where they're coming from, but some of the same people also say there are a lack of opportunities for Academy players. Regardless, it was apparent for anyone watching the match which team was better.

If Coutinho is out for the saints game I hope Sturridge capitalises on this chance to impress, he does seem like the natural replacement.

Who do you guys think will replace him? I suppose Origi may also have a chance as he's a bit more energetic, although, fitness permitting, that would ultimately give us our answer about whether Sturridge will be moved on.

{Ed001's Note - I would go with Sturridge as well.}

Preseason, against a Barcelona team far from match fit, but it's still hard not to get excited by that result and performance.

Mane, Klavan, Firmino, Stewart, Lovren and Origi all played extremely well imo. Klavan was very cool under pressure, only made 1 error that I could see and almost immediately atoned for it. Milner showed he can do a job at Left Back but does lack defensive awareness; not nearly as lacking as Moreno.

Henderson also impressed in spells, but the standout midfield performance has to go to Stewart for me, solid as a rock defensively with good product going forward. Mane will rightfully get all the plaudits on the first three goals, but Origi's influence can not be understated, especially in the second goal with that cute flick on for Mane.

It certainly bodes well for the season, especially against teams who like all the possession, but I still think we need to address left back as Moreno and Milner did let Barcelona in a few times through poor positioning.

Onwards and upwards for the reds I think,

PS: Can I just say a huge well done to the fans at the stadium for the noise and commitment, nearly 90,000 people turning up for a friendly!

If it is to be Amavi then I really hope that fans judge his ability on the fact he plays for Villa, he's a good player in both attack and defence. He's a really aggressive player when attacking and loves to run at the defence, which also shone at Nice. I'd prefer Chilwell, long term, but I think Amavi is better equipped than him to start the season and is only marginally in 2nd place for me.
