Probably the best match I have watched this season. Incredible tie. Hard to lose this one, but on the balance of play the better team won. let's focus on the cup and league now!
Onwards and upwards.

You need quick one touch football against low blocks and currently, we are just very slow and passive. Also, Diaz is no Bobby, he just doesn't have the finesse to be a false 9 in such congested spaces. We need to up the tempo, and probably get elliott on, who's our most skilled player in tight spaces.

Now I know Trent if definitely off to RM. Because following the RM playbook, he had to be injured since he plays in defense.

I have never seen a team miss more chances in a half than we have today.

It's both unbelievable and comical how bad Gomez is at judging the flight of the ball.

Reports that we have accepted a bid from Brentford for Kelleher. I wish him all the best in his career, and he departs with my utmost blessings. Served us as well as could be expected, and in a different era, could perhaps be a regular starter too. Unfortunately for him, probably one of the top goalkeepers of all time stood in his way.

I had this mildly interesting thought last night. Who amongst the current era (since Klopp) of players would really be called legends of the club. While we have had a remarkable number of good players recently, being a legend means something more.
For me, Salah, VVD, and Alisson are the three undoubtable ones.
Mane, Fabinho, Henderson while great players, I wouldn't classify them as legends myself. They will always be icons though.
Then just below them would be Matip, Wijnaldum, Milner, and maybe Gomez.
Robertson and Firmino are the ones I am most torn on. While I love them both I don't know if they will be remembered as legends. If I had to choose though, I would say Robbo has more chances of being remembered as one, and Bobby will probably be remembered as an icon.
And finally Trent. In my opinion, had he left in any other way, he would definitely have gone down as a legend even if he never played for us again after this season. But now, for most people he will barely even be an icon.

We lack creativity without Trent, and we really need to fix this. THe only other inventive player in the squad is Elliott, but he is not at all trusted by Slot. We will need major changes to fix this in the way we play. Probably need a creative No. 10 who Slot trusts, instead of Szob, and maybe shift Szob to No. 8. Also, Salah looks to have really gone off the boil, and alarmingly even Van Dijk has had a couple of poor games in succession, something that hardly happens. The good thing is we are 11 points clear, and hopefully will seal the title in the next 5 games, but it is going to be a huge summer.

Newcastle were worthy winners. We looked spent and out of ideas. I can't really criticise Slot for the team selection, given that Gakpo is not really fit yet, and there's no right option between Jota and Nunez (though I prefer Nunez) . However, the only thing I would blame him for is not starting Elliott. Finally, people would see how much losing Trent hurts us against teams who try to sit low. There's no creativity from the deep, and the long balls are just woeful without him. And that's why starting Elliott in games like this would work I think. He is by far the most creative player in our squad after Trent. And even if things don't come off, he keeps on trying. Today he created more in 15 mins than the rest of the team in 90. While this week has been very disappointing, we still have the league to look forward to. We are in a great position, and some support and maybe a longer break in matches, would help us get over the line.
And had you given me a league title at the start of the season, I would have bitten your arm off. So, keep the faith lads. #YNWA.

That was something else. Glad we won, but boy was it a hard watch. I thought Van Dijk and Trent were good. Jones was outstanding after coming on, and most of the subs played really well. But what a night from the holy goalie. Just casually reminding everyone why he is the best goalkeeper in the world. Even played a part in the goal. The contrast with Donnaruma who let in a saveable shot couldn't be starker. Up the Reds. Hoping for a much improved performance next week.
